Jimmy’s Lyrics Wine Picks for 2006
1. Château PolishKandyr 1997 Rouge, Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, $45
A startling blend of grenache and cabernet sauvignon; and apparently "there’s more of this coming early next year." (Imported by Arroz Tastings, Inc., Boston.)
2. Sweeny and Sweeny 2004 Red Zinfandel, Monaco, $24
This marvelous wine, the only Red Zin nurtured in the gambling slopes of Monaco, enjoys a note of cedar and spice. Rigorous in nature, growers speak of its automatic shutoff time. So don’t miss out! (Imported by Pastosa’s Wine Merchant, Brooklyn, New York.)
3. Domaine Bing Pierre 2003 Bourgogne Chardonnay, Burgundy, France, $21.56
Lean, mineral-driven white Burgundy that seems to take off its proverbial shirt. (Imported by AstroidalCahootz, Ltd., St. Josepha, California.)
4. Giacomo Davcho 2002 Barbera d’Alba, Messina, Italy, $12.50
One of the best values of the year. A bit young for its good, yet easy-going and elegant. Note the black cherry after effects. (Imported by Skunkd Trachea, Garden City, New York.)
